3rd Anniversary Offer – The Goal Movie and the N&S Series | top
Celebrating the third year of our 10th anniversary....
March is the third month of the year and as such we revisit the third year of Goldratt’s Marketing 10th anniversary with the release of the The Goal Movie on DVD and the Necessary and Sufficient Series (N&S Series).
After successfully launching the TOC Self Learning Programs, there was a clear need to make more TOC knowledge readily available in formats other than books. The specific request from the market was to have material that could be shown to a group of people as an effective, easy-to-understand introduction to the Theory of Constraints. More and more the market wanted to use digital media, rather than videotapes. It was time to release The Goal Movie in DVD format. Since The Goal Movie only presents a portion of the complete spectrum of the TOC body of knowledge, the need to release additional material for introducing people to the Theory of Constraint as a holistic application caused us to develop and launch the Necessary and Sufficient Series, taken from that year’s Dr. Goldratt’s broadcast at NTU. The result was a series of short video presentations introducing the Theory of Constraints and its application and placed in digital media (CD-ROMs).
Today, both The Goal Movie and the N&S Series are also available on www.TOC.tv and we are happy to announce a very special offer for the month of March:

Now is the time to revisit this timeless classic at its lowest price ever!

Understanding Drum-Buffer-Rope Scheduling – an interview | top
Anyone attempting to implement six sigma techniques is probably aware that there are a variety of other continuous improvement tools that can work in concert with them. The Theory of Constraints, developed to help end users identify and manage a business through organizational constraints, is an example. Its goal is to help manufacturers and other organizations identify constraints and decide how to exploit them using tools such as drum-buffer-rope (DBR) scheduling. Chad Smith, a principal consultant with the Constraints Management Group (CMG; Enumclaw, WA), reports that this scheduling technique can also work to help companies identify areas within a manufacturing facility that would benefit most from early implementation of six sigma process control. As a side benefit for those seeking pilot projects to justify use of six sigma on a company-wide scale, it also indicates the processes most likely to show the quickest payback from it.
In this manner, the DBR process in effect acts as a barometer indicating the quality of parts flowing into critical processes. It does not measure the variability of processes manufacturing those parts, but it flags that they may have problems that can be as diverse as excess scrap or inefficient parts handling. Once engineers have increased the part inventory at critical processes in a sort of stop-gap measure to ensure continued throughput, they can go back and perform DMAIC analysis on the problematic process...

Reaching The Goal – TOC application to the Service Industries | top
How does TOC apply to services? Can we translate the concepts one to one? John A. Ricketts in his book Reaching the Goal: How Managers Improve a Services Business Using Goldratt’s Theory of Constraints, describes the usage of the TOC Applications for improving service delivery, processes, and profitability in the fast growing service industry. Listen to John and Erik Bush, Vice President of IBM Global Services, in this interesting two part podcast produced by the IBM Press Books:
John Ricketts explains how the concepts and applications of TOC can be used for services. He specifically mentions how the principles apply to resource, production, market or information constraints and how they can be adjusted to the services environments, giving examples in his book “Reaching the Goal”. Learn the application and how to apply them in Service Industries with this great offer:
