| | | | Winner of the 2006 Ptak Prize
LeTourneau Steel Group (Las Vegas, NV)
On May 23rd, 2006 the International Supply Chain Education Alliance (ISCEA) awarded the LeTourneau Steel Group its 2006 Ptak Prize for Supply Chain Excellence during its 2006 ISCEA Supply Chain Conference and Exposition in Las Vegas, Nevada. According to the ISCEA the Ptak Prize is awarded to, “A Corporation that has made significant improvement in operations by combining clear objectives with aligned business practices supported by flexible and adaptable technology.”
The Ptak Prize is named after Carol Ptak, author of several supply chain and technology books and former President and CEO of the American Production and Inventory Control Society (APICS). The Ptak Award is the second award the LeTourneau Steel Group has received this year for its Drum-Buffer-Rope and Replenishment implementation that began late in 2004. Earlier this year they received the 2005 Implementation of the Year Award at the 2006 Constraints Management User Conference. The LeTourneau Steel story is almost too good to believe. A plant that at one time was in danger of closure managed to achieve staggering improvements in less than 12 months through fundamentally changing its operational tactics. LeTourneau implemented the Drum-Buffer- Rope(DBR) and Replenishment applications of the Theory of Constraints (TOC) late in 2004 and installed complimentary planning and execution software in Q1 2005. Through 2005, with the same resource base and LESS overtime LeTourneau managed to increase its tons produced by 55%, drop cycle times from 14 weeks to 4 ½ weeks, increase Work In Process (WIP) turns from 6 to 20 and increase On Time Delivery (OTD) from below 60% to nearly 95%.
Congratulations to LeTourneau Steel Group, winner of the 2006 Ptak Prize!
Entries are now be accepted for the 2007 Ptak Prize!
